The mission of the Community Challenge is to encourage and celebrate communities throughout our great state that are working tirelessly to make it easier for Texans to live a healthier life. Although we will recognize the winners, we ask that all the Community Challenge participants remember that we are in this together. By design, we have tried to offer wide and diverse opportunities for the people who support their communities during the Community Challenge, which allows space for interpretation of certain activities related to the Community Challenge.

Out of respect for your fellow participants, we request that you use your best judgment and adhere to the rules and criteria when uploading activities to the website to earn points for your community. The following list provides specific criteria for each activity that results in points earned during the Community Challenge. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have fun and good luck!

Individuals

1. Registration (500 Points)

To reward the participants, and to give incentives to the communities to involve more people, we have increased the registration value for this year. Register for the 2017 Community Challenge, and you will earn 500 points for your community! Rules and Requirements: One account per person. Multiple accounts will be deleted for a single person.

 

2. Fitness Tracker (50 Points)

You can earn points for your community by logging bouts of physical activity up to two times per day throughout the Community Challenge. To do this, you can use our manual fitness tracker or sync select wearable devices and apps with FitRankings.

Rules & Requirements

  • You can log two fitness activities per day.
  • You can only backlog activities for two weeks. Activities older than 2 weeks are not allowed and will be deleted!
  • Duplicate entries or entries that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

We will delete any fitness logs that do not adhere to the rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or removed from the site.

 

3. Weekly Weight Loss Tracker (100 Points)

You can earn points for your community by weekly weight loss once per week during Community Challenge. 

Rules and Requirements

  • You can only log weight loss once per week
  • You can only backlog weekly weight loss for two weeks.
  • Entries older than 2 weeks are not allowed and will be deleted!
  • If you've not lost any weight (or that's not your goal!), you're allowed to enter '0' for your weekly weight tracking entry
  • Duplicate entries or entries that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

We will delete any weight logs that do not adhere to the rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or removed from the site.

 

4. Healthy Selfies: Exercise and Fitness (200 Points)

To encourage participants to share healthy photos, we award points for uploading healthy selfies that demonstrate exercise and physical fitness.

Rules & Requirements

  • You can only upload one photo per bout of healthy activity.
  • No more than 2 healthy selfies can be submitted per day. Multiple daily submissions in one day will be removed by website administrators.
  • Photo must be of you, so you can't upload photos of other people doing healthy things. It's a SELFie.
  • At a minimum, your face must be shown and it must be clear that you are participating in the healthy activity.
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

We will delete any weight logs that do not adhere to the rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or removed from the site.

 

5. Healthy Selfies: Healthy Eating (200 Points)

To encourage participants to share healthy photos, we award points for uploading healthy selfies that demonstrate a healthy diet and good nutrition.

  • You can only upload one photo per bout of healthy activity.
  • No more than 5 healthy selfies can be submitted per day. Multiple daily submissions in one day will be removed by website administrators.
  • Photo must be of you, so you can't upload photos of other people doing healthy things. It's a SELFie.
  • At a minimum, your face must be shown and it must be clear that you are participating in the healthy activity.
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

6. Healthy Community Event (250 Points)

We have heard from many of you who asked that we offer incentives to sponsor and promote free community events focused on health. So, for the first time, we're going to do just that.

Rules & Requirements

  • The event flyer, which must include organizer name, date, time, description, and contact information, must be uploaded (see below).
  • Each event can only be submitted once. So, if you helped organize the event but it's already been uploaded by someone else, then you can't submit it again. Duplicate submissions from the same event will be deleted.
  • This event must be 100% free and open to the public. Events with a fee, or free events with restricted access, are not allowed and will be deleted.
  • A photo of your event, along with the flyer and related event details, must be uploaded to the Challenge website(see below)
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

We will delete any weight logs that do not adhere to the rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or removed from the site.

 

Schools

1. Pledges:

Having the commitment and support of leadership in a school district and a school is critical to creating a school environment where the health of students, their parents, staff and faculty is a priority. To encourage and reward those schools and school district representatives who are committed to maintaining a healthy school environment, we have created a series of school health-related commitments that, when presented, will earn points for the communities. Available pledges:

  • Principal Pledge - 500 points
  • Superintendent Pledge - 2,000 points
  • District School Board Pledge* - 2,000 points
  • SHAC Pledge - 500 points
  • PTA Pledge - 250 points
  • Health & Wellness Coordinator Pledge - 1,000 points
  • Teacher Pledge - 200 points

Rules and Requirements:

The specifications of each commitment vary depending on the number of participants and the focus, but the following rules and requirements are consistent for each commitment:

  • By presenting it, you acknowledge your commitment to support and promote the Community Challenge to your students, staff and faculty in your school district and / or school.
  • You agree to encourage school representatives to participate in the activities related to the school during the Community Challenge.
  • You will encourage teachers and educators at your school and / or the school district to download the Teach Healthier Mobile application , which is free to use and offers quick access to healthy lessons of different duration for different ages.
  • You must upload either a photo of the commitment you have signed OR a photo of you holding a card stating your commitment (we prefer this option!).
  • You can only make one commitment at a time.

We will delete any pledges that don't not adhere to these rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or eliminated.

 

2. Teach Healthier App Activity (500 Points)

Teachers are encouraged to download the Teach Healthier Mobile App, which provides free access to fun, easy-to-implement health and physical education lessons and activities. Once downloaded, you can earn points for your community by demonstrating use of the Teach Healthier app with your students.

Rules & Requirements: 

  • Only one Teach Healthier Activity can be uploaded per day, per teacher
  • A photo of the Teach Healthier Activity and the lesson title is required below in order to verify the lesson and participation
  • Only one photo from a Teach Healthier Activity is allowed. Photos of the same Teach Healthier activity will be deleted. Remember, only one Teach Healthier activity can be uploaded each day.
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin.

3. School Staff & Faculty: Healthy Activity (200 Points)

School staff and faculty can earn points for their community by documenting healthy group activities that include at least three school staff or faculty members. Healthy group activities with students, while encouraged, are not allowed for points with this activity. Photos of groups of students uploaded will are not allowed and will be removed from the website.

Rules and Requirements:

  • A minimum of at least three school staff and/or faculty members must participate in a group fitness, exercise, or healthy eating activity.
  • A photo of the group participating in the activity must be uploaded below
  • Only one photo per group activity is allowed. Photos of the same group activity will be deleted
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin

We will delete any uploads that don't not adhere to these rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or eliminated.

 

4. Teach Healthier MyPlate Lesson (20 Points)

You can earn points for your community by talking to your students about the Teach Healthier MyPlate activity card. Upload a photo of a student holding the card and earn 20 points for your community!

Rules and Requirements:

  • One picture per student holding the MyPlate activity card.
  • Parents or teachers can upload their student’s photo. Photos of groups of students are not allowed and will be removed by site administrators
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin

Mayors and City Officials

Local government plays a critical role in the health and well being of a community. By supporting the Community Challenge and demonstrating its support of a healthy community, the mayor and city officials can help your community win the title!

 

1. Mayor's Pledge (10,000 Points)

By declaring his/her support for the Community Challenge, which includes a commitment to support healthy activities and initiatives, a community's mayor can earn 10,000 points for a community. Rules &

Rules & Requirements:

In support of the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge, the mayor must pledge to:

  • Kick off the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge by declaring his/her support and encouraging my constituents to participate!

And, to earn points for his/her community, the mayor understands they can:

  • Submit this signed Pledge and a photo of myself holding the Pledge.
  • Ask City Council members to sign the City Council Pledge and upload a photo of the group holding the Pledge on the Challenge site
  • Create and upload a short video that promotes the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge and calls on another Texas Mayor to compete
  • Establish or strengthen a Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council in my community
  • Host and speak at an IT’S TIME TEXAS-sanctioned event in my community that promotes healthy living and the Community Challenge

 

2. City Council Pledge (2,500 Points)

Like the mayor, a community's city council can declare its support of the the Community Challenge, which includes a commitment to support healthy activities and initiatives, to earn 2,500 points for its community

Rules & Requirements:

In support of the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge, the city council must pledge to:

  • Declare our support by signing this Pledge and uploading a picture of the group holding the pledge on the Challenge site
  • Encourage our Mayor to sign the Mayor Pledge if it hasn’t been submitted
  • Work with our Mayor to establish or strengthen a Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council or similar Citywide Health Collaborative

 

3. Mayor's Challenge Video (15,000 Points)

A community's mayor can step his/her game up and earn points for their community by creating a video in which he/she challenges a rival/neighboring community's mayor to step up and participate in this year's Community Challenge.

Rules & Requirements:

  • In order to share a Mayor's Challenge Video, a mayor must have first signed and submitted the Community Challenge Mayor's Pledge
  • The video must be uploaded to YouTube and publicly viewable (not set to private or hidden)
  • In the video, the mayor must acknowledge her/his support of the IT'S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge, and proclaim that her/his community is participating
  • In the video, the mayor must call out a rival community and challenge its mayor to also participate in the Community Challenge

IT'S TIME TEXAS staff and site administrators will publish the video once we've reviewed it and confirmed it meets the basic criteria, as outlined above. If it doesn't adhere to these rules and requirements, it will not be published and no points will be awarded for this activity.

 

4. Establish or Strengthen a Mayor's Health & Fitness Council (MHFC) or a Similar Local Health Collaborative (20,000 Points)

In order for your community to receive points for this activity, you must review the following rules and requirements and submit any corresponding documentation (as requested below):

If establishing MHFC or Health Collaborative during the Challenge, the following is required:

  • Support from Mayor or Mayor equivalent (email or letter mentioning support)
  • Submit list of key stakeholders in support of MHFC
  • Submit picture of group (minimum of 3 people including Mayor)
  • Fill out Health Collaborative progress form here

If strengthening a MHFC, Health Collaborative, or comparable initiative, the following is required: Required:

  • Submit picture of Executive Committee (including Mayor)
  • Promotion of MHFC on Social Media & Website (including mention of IT'S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge)
  • Submit identified step supporting document
  • Fill out Health Collaborative progress form here

5. ITT-Approved Community Challenge Event (5,000 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • You can only upload one ITT-Sanctioned Community Event per month during the Challenge
  • This event must be 100% free and open to the public. Events with a fee, or free events with restricted access, are not allowed and will be deleted
  • A video of your event, along with a promotional flyer, event photos, and related event details, must be uploaded to the Challenge website (see below)
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin
  • A Community Challenge mayor’s pledge or an MHFC (or equivalent) must be previously submitted and approved in order to submit ITT-Sanctioned Events for review.

We will review your submission to ensure it meets the rules and requirements. Those that don't adhere to the rules and requirements will not be published and no points will be awarded to the community.

Businesses & Community Organizations

The business community plays a critical role in helping the improve the health of a community. This year, businesses and organizations can help their community win the title by participating in the following activities.

1. Work Healthier Pledge (250 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • By signing this pledge, a business commits to supporting the Community Challenge
  • Complete the IT’S TIME TEXAS Work Healthier Assessment, which is accessible at https://assessment.ittworkhealthier.org/step/1
  • Organize at least one Healthy Workplace Event, such as a group walk or healthy potluck, and upload a photo of the group to the Challenge site

 

2. Non-Profit Leader Pledge (250 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • By signing this pledge, a business commits to supporting the Community Challenge
  • Organize at least one Healthy Workplace Event, such as a group walk or healthy potluck, and upload a photo of the group to the Challenge site

 

3. Work Healthier Assessment (500 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

Once submitted, we will verify that it's been completed and award you and your community with 500 points.

 

4. Healthy Workplace Event (200 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • A minimum of at least three business or organization employees/representatives must participate in a group fitness, exercise, or healthy eating event.
  • A photo of the group participating in the activity must be uploaded below
  • Only one photo per group event is allowed. Photos of the same group event will be deleted
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin

We will delete any uploads that don't not adhere to these rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or eliminated.

Faith-based Organizations

Like the business community, local faith-based organizations play a critical role in the health and well being of a community and its residents. To support the community and to earn points for it during the Community Challenge, faith-based organization representatives can participate in the following healthy activities.

1. Faith-based Leader Pledge (250 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • By signing this pledge, you and your congregation commit to supporting the Community Challenge
  • Organize at least one Healthy Group Activity for my congregation, such as a group walk, healthy potluck, or community garden project, and upload a photo of the group to the Challenge site

2. Healthy Group Activity: Faith-based (200 Points)

Rules & Requirements:

  • A minimum of at least three people must participate in a group fitness, exercise, or healthy eating activity
  • A photo of the group participating in the activity must be uploaded
  • Only one photo per group activity is allowed. Photos of the same group activity will be deleted
  • Duplicates and submissions that do not adhere to these rules and requirements will be deleted by site admin

We will delete any uploads that don't not adhere to these rules and requirements without prior notice. Participants who repeatedly break the rules may be suspended and / or eliminated.
