Rules & Requirements

The Community Challenge's mission is to encourage and celebrate the communities throughout our great state that are working tirelessly to make it easier for Texans to live healthier lives. Though we'll ultimately recognize winners, we ask that all Challenge participants remember that we're in this together. By design, we've tried to provide broad and diverse opportunities for people to support their communities during the Challenge, which leaves room for interpretation on certain Community Challenge-related activities.

Out of respect to your fellow participants, we request that you use your best judgement and adhere to the guidelines and criteria when uploading activities to earn points for your community. The following list provides specific criteria for each activity that results in points earned during the Challenge. If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Have fun and good luck!

Individuals

1. Registration: To reward participants, and to incentivize communities to get more people involved, we've increased the value of registration this year. Register for the 2017 Community Challenge, and you'll earn 1,000 points for your community!

Rules & Requirements:
One account per person. Multiple accounts for one person will be deleted.

2. Fitness Tracker: Back by popular demand, you can once again use our fitness tracker or sync your MapMyFitness account with the Challenge website to earn points for exercising every day.

Rules & Requirements:

  • Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of two fitness activities every day.
  • Because we recognize that some people have limited access to the Internet and/or the Challenge website, we permit retroactively adding fitness activities up to two weeks. So, for instance, if you forget to log an activity one day, you'll have up to two weeks to log it and still earn points for your community.

We will delete any fitness activities logged that do not adhere to these rules and requirements without notification. Participants who repeatedly break the rules can be suspended and/or deleted.

3. Weekly Weight Tracker: To reward your efforts of eating well and exercising, we'll award points to participants for logging their weight and weight loss once a week throughout the Challenge.

Rules & Requirements:

  • Each participant is allowed to track and log their weight on the Challenge website once a week.
  • Losing weight is not a requirement. If you don't shed any pounds (or that's not your goal), simply log "0" pounds lost for that week.
  • You can only backlog weekly weight loss for up to two weeks. Entries older than 2-weeks are not allowed and will be deleted!

We will delete weight tracker logs that do not adhere to these rules and requirements without notification. Participants who repeatedly break the rules can be suspended and/or deleted.

4. Healthy Selfie: Exercise & Fitness: Photos of healthy activities motivate and encourage fellow Texans to live healthier. To encourage participants to share healthy photos, we award points for uploading healthy selfies that demonstrate exercise and fitness.

Rules & Requirements:

  • You can only upload one photo from a single bout of exercise or fitness. So, for example, if you're going on a run, only one photo from that run is allowed.
  • The photo you upload must be of you. You can't upload photos of other people doing healthy things. After all, that's why it's called a selfie!
  • You can only backlog activities for two weeks. Healthy selfies older than 2-weeks are not allowed and will be deleted!
  • At a minimum, your face must be in the photo, and it must be clear that you are participating in the healthy activity.

We will delete Healthy Selfies that do not adhere to these rules and requirements without notification. Participants who repeatedly break the rules can be suspended and/or deleted.

5. Healthy Selfie: Healthy Eating: Photos of healthy activities motivate and encourage fellow Texans to live healthier. To encourage participants to share healthy photos, we award points for uploading healthy selfies that demonstrate good nutrition and healthy eating.

Rules & Requirements:

  • You can only upload one photo from a single bout of good nutrition, healthy eating, or food preparation. So, for example, if you're eating a great, healthy lunch, you're only allowed to upload one photo from that lunch.

6. Community Event: We heard from many of you who asked that we provide incentives for hosting and promoting free, health-focused community events. So, for the first time, we'll do just that.

Rules & Requirements:

  • It must be health-focused. Think group exercise classes, informational health fairs, community garden harvesting and celebrations, etc.
  • This event must be 100% free and open to the public. Events with any fee, regardless of how affordable, or free events with restricted access, are not allowed and will be deleted.
  • Using this website, you must upload an event flyer that includes the name(s) of the organizer(s), date, time, description, and contact information. We want to see that it was promoted!
  • A photo of your event along with the flyer (see the previous point) and related event details must be uploaded to the Challenge website.
  • Each event can only be submitted once. So, if you helped organize the event, but it's already been uploaded by someone else in your community, then you can't submit it again. Duplicate submissions from the same event will be deleted.

We will delete Community Events that do not adhere to these rules and requirements without notification. Participants who repeatedly break the rules can be suspended and/or deleted.

Schools

1. Pledges: Having the commitment and support of leadership in a school district and a school is critical to creating a school environment that prioritizes the health of students, their parents, staff, and faculty. To encourage and reward those school and school district representatives committing to fostering a healthy school environment, we've created a number of school health-related pledges which when submitted will earn points for communities.

  • District Health & Wellness Coordinator
  • District School Health Advisory Council
  • Principal
  • Teacher

The specifics of each pledge vary depending on the signee(s) and focus, but the following rules and requirements are consistent for each pledge:

  • You must upload either a photo of the pledge you've signed OR a photo of you holding the pledge (we prefer this!).
  • You can only take a pledge one time.

We will delete any pledges submitted that do not adhere to these rules and requirements without notification. Participants who repeatedly break the rules can be suspended and/or deleted.
